What is a Treatment Booster?

If you’ve been to SMooth Solutions recently, you may have heard a provider mention adding a “booster” to your laser or facial. It’s a newer piece of vocabulary at most medspas, so here’s what it actually means, how it’s delivered, and how we decide whether one belongs in your appointment.

QUICK TAKE •  A booster is a concentrated, medical-grade active added into a treatment that’s already creating a channel into the skin. •  It is not a standalone treatment — it’s an add-on to a laser, microneedling session, or facial. •  Our menu groups boosters into four categories: Brighten, Smooth, Repair, and Restore. •  We only recommend one when it will meaningfully improve your specific result.

The Basic Idea

Topical skincare has a hard ceiling: the outer layer of skin is built to keep things out, so even a well-formulated serum can only penetrate so far. A treatment booster gets around that ceiling by riding along with a treatment that’s already opening a pathway into the skin — a laser like LaseMD Ultra, CO2, or HALO; microneedling or RF microneedling; or a facial like Diamond Glow or PRÉIME DermaFacial that already works the skin’s surface.

Instead of sitting on top of the skin waiting to be absorbed, the active is delivered directly into it, at a concentration a topical product typically can’t match.

Four Categories, Ten Actives

Our booster menu is organized around what you’re trying to solve, not just what’s in the vial:

  • Brighten (Radiance & Even Tone) — Depigmentation, Glutathione, and Vitamin C, for dullness, dark spots, sun damage, and melasma
  • Smooth (Age-Defying & Lift) — Mesotox, Mesopeptide, and Hyaluronic Acid, for fine lines, sagging, and dehydration
  • Repair (Scars, Texture & Renewal) — Photoaging, Skinmark, and X-DNA Gel, for acne scars, stretch marks, and sun-stressed skin
  • Restore (Hair & Scalp) — Dutexome, a DHT-blocking scalp treatment for hormonal hair thinning

Medical-Grade, Not Guesswork

Every booster we use is a high concentration of a clinical-grade active, stored in a sterile, autoclaved vial that holds its potency until the moment it’s opened. That matters because dilution and shelf stability are exactly where lower-quality versions of these treatments tend to cut corners. There’s no filler ingredient list here — just the active your skin needs, matched to your concern.

Why We Don’t Add One to Every Visit

It would be easy to upsell a booster onto every appointment. We don’t, because a booster that doesn’t address a real concern is just an added cost with no added benefit. Our providers are trained to recommend one only when it will genuinely elevate your result — the same approach behind every treatment on our menu, and the reason our client retention has stayed above 90% over more than three decades in business.

Bottom Line

A treatment booster is a targeted, medical-grade active delivered into your skin during a treatment you’re already having — never a treatment on its own, and never something we’ll add just because we can.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a booster replace my regular treatment?

No — a booster is always added to an existing treatment, not used as a substitute for it.

Will adding a booster change my downtime?

No, boosters are added within your existing treatment window and don’t extend recovery.

How do I know which booster is right for me?

Your provider will recommend one based on your specific concern during consultation — you don’t need to know which one to ask for in advance.

Are boosters an upsell?

We only recommend a booster when it will meaningfully improve your outcome. If it won’t make a real difference, we won’t suggest it.
