Hormone replacement therapy, measured before it is prescribed.
Hormones drift with age, and the symptoms rarely announce themselves as hormonal — you are simply tired, or short-tempered, or not sleeping through the night. We test before we treat, and we treat what the labs actually show. For women and men both.
Naperville & Oswego
- Starts with
- Lab work drawn before anything is prescribed
- Suited to
- Women & men protocols differ by person
- First changes
- 4–6 weeks with labs rechecked as you go
- Consultation
- Free no cost, no commitment
The method, plainly stated.
Hormone therapy is a prescription, not a supplement. That means bloods before anything is written, a provider who reads them against your history rather than against a symptom questionnaire, and repeat labs to confirm the dose is doing what it should. If your numbers come back unremarkable, we will tell you that too — and look elsewhere for the cause.
- What it is
- Prescription hormone therapy, dosed to your own lab results
- Who it is for
- Women through perimenopause and menopause, and men with low testosterone
- How it is given
- Injection, topical or oral — the options are discussed at your consultation
- Before you start
- A blood panel and a review of your medical history
- First changes
- Commonly four to six weeks, with sleep and energy usually shifting first
- Follow-up
- Repeat labs to confirm the dose, then periodic monitoring
- Who prescribes
- Licensed medical providers, under physician oversight
Who this is for — and who it isn’t
Most clinics only publish the first list. Both matter.
A good fit if
- Your symptoms have run for months rather than a bad fortnight
- You are in perimenopause or menopause and want to talk through the options properly
- You are a man with flat energy, low libido or muscle you cannot hold onto despite training
- You would rather know your numbers than guess at them
- You are willing to repeat labs and adjust over time instead of setting and forgetting
Consider something else if
- You want a prescription the same day, without testing
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive
- You have a personal history of hormone-sensitive cancer — that needs your oncologist in the conversation first
- You are after a performance dose rather than a corrective one
- Your picture points elsewhere — thyroid, iron and sleep apnoea are all worth ruling out
If hormones are not your answer, we would rather say so at the consultation than sell you a course of them.
Your first months, start to finish
-
Consultation
Your history, your symptoms and what you are hoping to change. Free, and nothing is prescribed at this visit.
-
Lab work
A blood panel, so that what follows is based on your numbers rather than a questionnaire.
-
Your plan
Your provider walks you through what the labs show, which delivery options suit you, and what it costs — before you commit to anything.
-
Review
You start, then repeat labs confirm the dose is right. Adjusted if it is not.
The terms explained.
- Perimenopause
- The years of fluctuating hormones before periods stop for good. Symptoms often begin here, while routine tests can still read as normal.
- Menopause
- Twelve consecutive months without a period.
- Oestrogen
- The hormone most associated with hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal and skin changes when it falls.
- Progesterone
- Prescribed alongside oestrogen where the uterus is intact, and often helpful for sleep in its own right.
- Testosterone
- Present and relevant in both sexes. Low levels in men typically show as flat energy, low libido and lost muscle.
- Body-identical
- A preparation with the same molecular structure as the hormone your body makes. Ask your provider which preparation they recommend for you, and why.
- Hormone panel
- The blood test that measures your levels. Timing within the menstrual cycle can matter, so you may be given a window to book it in.
- Titration
- Adjusting a dose gradually, guided by repeat labs and how you feel, rather than starting at a target and hoping.
Frequently asked questions
What will it cost?
It depends on the preparation and dosing your provider recommends, which is not known until your labs are back. You are quoted in full at that point, before anything is prescribed.
How soon would I feel different?
Most people notice sleep and energy first, commonly inside four to six weeks. Mood and libido often take longer. If nothing has moved by your follow-up labs, then the dose or the diagnosis needs revisiting — not more time.
Would I be on this forever?
Not necessarily. Some people use it through a symptomatic stretch of perimenopause and come off. Others stay on longer. It is reviewed at every follow-up rather than renewed automatically.
Is hormone therapy safe?
It carries real benefits and real risks, and the balance differs with your age, your history and the preparation used. Talking that through properly is part of the consultation, and it is the reason we require labs and ongoing monitoring rather than prescribing on symptoms alone.
Do you test before prescribing?
Always. A blood panel comes first, and we will not write a prescription off a symptom list.
Will you work with my own doctor?
Yes, and we would encourage it. We are happy to share your panel and your treatment plan with your GP or specialist.
